FTTP Instillation FAQs

What I can expect when an Openreach engineer visits?

If you don't have a Full Fibre connection yet, then we'll need to arrange an Openreach engineer to visit your home or business premises to get one set up.

Here's a few important things you need to know about the installation and what to expect on the day.

Installing Full Fibre boxes

Openreach fit one box inside and the other outside your home or business. The small box we'll fit inside your premises is an Openreach box called an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). This box needs to be close to your router and they'll both need to be near a plug socket.

Drilling

Openreach will need to drill through your wall from the outside of your property so we can connect the Full Fibre boxes and cables.

Rented property

You'll need to get the go-ahead from your landlord or property owner for us to drill through the wall.

External work

Sometimes Openreach may need outdoor access to your property if we need to do some external work. You don't need to be home or at your premises for this.

Attendance

On the day of your appointment someone over the age of 18 will need to be at home or onsite and they'll need to let the engineer know where to install your connection.

Obstructions

If there's any building work or scaffolding that could get in the way, please get in touch before your engineer appointment.

Router

If you've ordered a router, we'll send this out by 1st class post and it will arrive before your installation date. It's small enough to fit through your letter box so you don't need to be in to receive it.

If you're using your own router, please make sure it's compatible with our Full Fibre service.

Getting you online

Full Fibre installations usually take a couple of hours. Once your connection's all set up you can plug in your router to the Openreach box (ONT). Our engineer will finish up by testing your connection using one of your preferred devices.

That's it. You'll be good to go and can start enjoying your game-changing, ultrafast, reliable Full Fibre.

Survey at your property

Sometimes an Openreach engineer may need to run a few checks or survey your property to see if there's any additional work required to get your connection set up.

We'll let you know if they need to do any of these checks as part of your order.

Sometimes they may need access to your property. If they do, we'll contact you to arrange a suitable time. Once they've completed these checks, we'll be in touch to confirm your installation date.

If there's likely to be any delays, we'll always keep you informed and aim to get you set up as quickly as we can.
